Sata hailed for embracing chiefs

Nchelenge, Sept 15, 2014, ZANIS…Nchelenge District Commissioner Royd Chakaba says President Michael Sata holds traditional leaders in high esteem because of their inherent role in development.

Mr. Chakaba said President Sata and his administration established the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs to give them the platform to be heard and restore their dignity.

He said the traditional leaders deserve better because of their inherent power adding that without them no meaningful and sustainable development can be achieved.

Mr. Chakaba was speaking at Chieftainess Kanyembo’s palace during a  meeting for the construction of an ultra modern palace.

The DC said the head of state remains committed to fulfilling his campaign promises of improving the welfare of the chiefs throughout the country.

He disclosed that President Sata and his PF administration have since embarked on the construction and rehabilitation of chiefs’ palaces countrywide.

He revealed that the government through the Ministry of Traditional and Chiefs Affairs has since released K750, 000 for the construction of ultra modern palaces in Luapula Province.

He said the government will soon commence the construction of new palaces at Chieftainess Kanyembo and chief Mununga in Nchelenge District and chief Munkanta in Kawambwa District.

Mr. Chakaba urged the traditional leaders to rally behind President Sata in his quest to develop this country and liberate the Zambian people from abject poverty.
