Installation of 35 bore holes nears completion

Mkushi, Sept 15, 2014, ZANIS—Management at Mkushi District Council has assured communities in the area that installation of 35 bore holes has been earmarked for completion before the end of this year.

Mkushi district Council Secretary Everty Ng’andu confirmed this to ZANIS today.

Mr Ng’andu said a Chinese company was expected to complete the construction works of sinking bore holes under the auspices of the district council.

Mr. Ng’andu said that although the Chinese company had commenced works on the project a few months ago, the District Council had persuaded it to undertake a return job aimed at deepening the depth of the bore holes.

He also stressed the need for communities to consider giving priority to bore holes as they apply to be funded for community projects using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

He maintained that the District Council was committed to addressing the challenge of clean, safe water supply saying  it was also imperative for communities to include bore holes among the proposals made for CDF.

And Mkushi District Council Public Relations Officer Mumba Mafwenko advised communities to work closely with respective Ward Councilors on bore hole related issues.

Ms. Makwenko was responding to complaints related to the installation of bore holes by Headman Patson Simukanzye of Chiponya village in Chibefwe ward of Mkushi district.

Headman Simukanzye had lamented that the need for bore holes had been a long standing aspiration in his area saying there was need for the Council to address the issue promptly.
