Zambia Sugar MD resigns

Mazabuka, September 12, 2014 ZANIS—Zambia Sugar Managing Director Aubrey Chibumba has with immediate effect resigned from his position amid rampant cases of corruption experienced at the company.

Sources e told ZANIS in Mazabuka that Chibumba tendered in his resignation letter early this week without stating reasons for his resignation.

The sources disclosed that Chibumba who was appointed as the first Zambian to head the Illovo Sugar Company decided to part ways with the company due to some frustrations he encountered in his effort to rid the company of corrupt vices.

The sources said Chibumba felt he was not receiving maximum support from his employees in trying to make sure that those involved in acts of corruption face the law.

The sources said Chibumba felt his efforts to fight corruption mainly experienced in the awarding of contracts where employees demand kickbacks were not yielding fruits following management’s decisions to reinstate some of the employees arrested by the Anti – Corruption Commission and are facing charges in the courts of law.

Efforts to get a comment from Chibumba failed as he was reported to be at the company’s headquarters in South Africa where he tendered in his resignation.
