Chess trip hangs in balance

WITH only a week before the start of the 2014 South Africa Junior Chess Championship, the Chess Federation of Zambia (CFZ) is still in limbo over travel arrangements.
The Zambian team is supposed to take part in the South Africa Junior chess championship that that is billed for 19 to 29 September.
The federation has not yet secured tickets to send a team to participate at championship which is starting on the 19 to 29 September.
CFZ tournament director Aaron Banda said despite the financial challenges they are still hoping to get positive feedback from other cooperate companies like Cadec to raise a K20,000 that will enable the team to travel.


“We are hoping to raise funds before Friday and for the trip to be a success because our team is scheduled to leave this Wednesday,” Banda said.
He said that the federation had also included the Under-eight because they have managed to acquire help from parents to accompany them.
The Under-eight who include Kennedy Shane and Naomi Mwale have completed the national team and will be able to participate in the championship without any predicaments.
Banda said the team from various clubs will go into camp at the Olympic youth development confederation (OYDC) in Lusaka this Friday were the preparations will commence.
