Kambwili counsels PF candidate
Solwezi, Sept 10, 2014, ZANIS—Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili has cautioned Solwezi Central Patriotic Front (PF) candidate in tomorrow’s parliamentary by-election Newton Malwa against abandoning the electorates when voted as Member of Parliament.
Mr Kambwili warned Mr Malwa that the party will not take kindly a member who decides to forget about the electorates when voted into power.
Mr Kambwili said this during a public rally at St. Francis in Solwezi today to drum up support for Mr Malwa in tomorrow’s by-election.
Meanwhile, Mr Kambwili has urged the electorates in the area to vote for the PF candidate as Member of Parliament because he will have easy access to resources for developmental projects as opposed to when they have opposition Members of Parliament who do not want to engage government.
Speaking at the same rally, Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister Susan Kawandami said the PF government has already demonstrated what it can do for the people of Zambia as could be evidenced by a number of developmental works that are going on.
Ms Kawandami said the only thing missing for the people in Solwezi Central Constituency was a person to represent their needs because opposition representatives fear to engage government.
She added that the only remedy to bridge the gap was to vote for a candidate from the party in power because he will be able to easily mingle with government ministries to present the people’s needs in his area.
Solwezi central is being contested by PF’s Newton Malwa, Lucky Mulusa from the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, Dawson Kafwaya from United Party for National Development while Forum for Democracy and Development is fielding Nathan Mulonga and the United National Independence Party has Mary Katiki.
Solwezi central constituency has five wards namely Kapijimpanga, Kamalamba, Kimasala, Sandang’ombe and Tuvwanganai with 52,900 registered voters and a total of 30 polling stations.
Voting in the by-election opens tomorrow at 06:00 hours.
