Three-year-old toddler drowns in Mwansabombwe

——-A three-year-old girl of Mwansabombwe district in Luapula province has died after the boat she was traveling in capsized.


The girl, identified as Beatrice Kaoma, met her fate after a boat carrying 12 people capsized near the harbour in Katotoma in Pembe lagoons.


Confirming the matter to ZANIS in Mwansabombwe, Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, said the boat was carrying Growth Monitoring Promoters, Neighbourhood Health Care and Community Health Workers committee members.


Mr Mulenga said the team went to conduct health programs at a fishing camp in Pembe lagoons when the accident happened.


He said the girl was with the mother identified as Doris Chola, aged 36 years.

The Police Chief said the incident was reported to Mwansabombwe Police by James Mwitwa, aged 52, a member of the CCPU in the village.


The police commissioner said the body of the girl has since been retrieved and buried.
