Kapiri council to revoke licenses for traders not complying with health Act

Kapiri Mposhi, September 4, 2014—Kapiri Mposhi District Council has threatened to revoke trading licenses for all business outlets that do not meet the required minimum standards as stipulated in the Public Health Act.

Council Secretary (CS), Hamwende Mpande said the local authority has since started carrying out inspections on all business premises in the district to     monitor levels of compliance.

Mr Hamwende has warned that the local authority will not renew trading permits for 2015 to business premises operating in contravention with the law.

In a public notice, Mr. Hamwende ordered traders in the district to also paint their premises before applying for trading permits.

“It is a requirement for all traders and business community to pay for business trading permits as approved in the Trading License Act, Chapter 393 of section 3(1) (a)-(b) however, the issuance of these permits will be on condition that they meet the required minimum standards as stipulated in the Public Health Act Chapter 295 of the laws of Zambia,” Mr Hamwende said.

Mr Hamwende said the council has given the traders up to October 31, 2014 for payment for business permits warning that the local authority will impose a penalty fee of K180 on late renewals.

The CS has since advised the business community in the area to renew their business permits on time to avoid penalties and help the council build a clean and healthy environment in the district.
