—-Health Professional Council (HPC) Registrar, Mary Zulu, has welcomed the move by Mulungushi University to open a medical school.

This was after Mulungushi University, one of Zambia’s three public universities, revealed that it will soon open a medical school at the institution.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview today, Dr Zulu said it is a good move because the country has a critical shortage of staff in the medical field.
Dr Zulu said there is need to have a training plan for more doctors because the country has a shortage in the number of staff.

The HPC Registrar described the man power in the health sector as inadequate to cater for the whole population of the country.

She has urged other colleges and universities that have the capacity to open medical schools to do the same.
