Zambia to host Handball tournament

Lusaka, August 21, ZANIS—Zambia will from August 30 to September 6, 2014, host the Zone Six Regional Handball Championship at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC) in Lusaka.

Handball Association Zambia (HAZ) Communications Manager Chosab Changa announced the development in a telephone interview with ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today.

Changa said that a total of nine countries are expected to participate in the regional tournament with the exception of Namibia which has pulled out due to logistical problems.

He named the 8 countries that have confirmed participation as South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola and the hosts Zambia.

And Changa said the morale of the Zambian handball players who are currently in residential camp in Lusaka is high and that the players are responding well to training.

Meanwhile Changa has said his association is still scouting for the remaining K205, 000 of the total K405, 000 required to successfully host the tournament.

He has since appealed to the corporate world and other business organisations to financially assist his association so that it can successfully host the championship.

Changa said this is the only way that the game of handball can be developed and raise the country’s handball profile and sporting calendar on the international scene.
