UPND Scoops Namwala Ward elections

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the Chitongwe ward by elections.

The elections were contested by the UPND’s Joseph Changwa who scored 857 votes followed by PF’s Steward Banda with 159 votes while MMD’s Mwaka Hapious only managed 44 votes.

 The seat went vacant following the death of UPND councillor Edward Shamikobo.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) district Returning Officer Mabvuto Masiye confirmed the results to ZANIS in Namwala today.

Mr Masiye said that 1067 votes were cast in the by election and seven were rejected.
