PF, UPND share spoils in Luampa 

Luampa, August 20, 2014 ZANIS—The Patriotic Front (PF) has scooped the Luampa Ward by-election while the United Party for National Development (UPND) has won the Namando Ward in Luampa District.


PF’s David Kahulu scooped the Luampa Ward seat after polling 726 votes while UPND’s David Njamba got 575 votes and the United National Independence Party (UNIP) candidate Nyumbu Chipango trailed with 30 votes.


In Namando Ward, UPND’s Mwiya Mundenge won the seat with 275 votes while his closest rival PF’s Katupisha Yambwana polled 262 votes and Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) candiadate Christopher Muchima only managed to get 17 votes.


Announcing the results at Luampa Primary School at 01:00 hours, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Returning Officer Peter Mulenga declared Mr Kahulu and Mr Mundenge as duly elected PF and UPND Councillors for Luampa and Namando Wards respectively.


Violence which characterised the campaigns was quelled by heavy presence of police officers at the totalling centre.
 
The Luampa Ward seat fell vacant after the death of MMD Councillor Makawyanga Chinyemba while Namando became vacant after the death of PF councillor Shishau Muthala.
