——Zambia Railways Limited will this year launch two luxury express passenger trains worth about K64 million that will run from Livingstone to Kitwe.

Zambia Railways Limited Central Regional Manager, Jawara Mubanga, said the coaches will come in two sets and the first set is expected to be in the country towards the end of this month.

The two coaches will be named after prominent Zambian figures and the names will be unveiled at the day of the launch.

He added that the trains are intended to increase the frequency and reduce congestion on the Livingstone-Kitwe route which currently has two runs per week –  two from Livingstone and two from Kitwe.
Mr Mubanga also stated that the two coaches are luxury and will have the economy class, the standard class, the slipper and the dining on them and will be quiet pleasing to the public.

He further added that the two trains, which have sitting capacity of 1,000, have already been rehabilitated in South Africa and await delivery into Zambia.
