SDA commended for maintaining traditions

Livingstone, Aug 6/14, ZANIS—-Southern Province Minister, Daniel Munkombwe, has urged the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) to maintain its traditions and not be swayed by modern activities that are leading other Churches astray.

Mr Munkombwe noted that some Churches, including traditional ones, had gone astray under the pretext of undertaking modern activities.

“What is happening in some Churches is very embarrassing. Why should Church people take off their jackets and tie them around their waists and dance chindende? There is no difference with those dancing in the beer halls, so SDA please maintain your traditions,” he said.

Mr Munkombwe said this last evening during the Ambassadors of Christ Musical Concert organized by the Seventh Day Adventist Church, held at the Livingstone Golf Club.

He urged the SDA Church to continue with their good works in the country for the benefit of all citizens.

Earlier, SDA Zambia Union Conference President, Harrington Akombwa, said the Ambassadors of Christ Choir would bless President Michael Sata with their singing at State House.

Dr Akombwa said State House had already accepted and the choir would present all their Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) to President Sata during the occasion.

“I can confirm that State House has accepted our gesture for the Ambassadors of Christ to sing for President Sata and present all their DVDs to him. The President is happy and looking forward to receive them,” he said.

Dr Akombwa said the SDA Church was humbled by the support it receives from government.

“In turn, we stand as a Church to support government and being good citizens who will contribute to developing the country and making it a better place for all to live,” he said.

And Ambassadors of Christ Chairperson, Reuben Mavunyi, said he was humbled by the commitment shown by Zambian political leaders to activities undertaken by the Church in Zambia.

Ambassadors of Christ are a renowned choir group under the SDA Church in Kigali, Rwanda.

They are in Zambia to help Libali SDA Church of Lusaka fundraise money for the building of a new church that will have a sitting capacity of 3000.
