GOVERNMMENT has started rehabilitating eight roads in Lufwanyama district. Lufwanyama district commissioner Alex Kalela said in Lufwanyama yesterday that the contractor is on site and has started the works. “Government is trying to open up the district for investment, it has opened up new roads which are under construction,” Mr Kalela said. He said the rehabilitation of the roads at K15 million will help to develop the area. Mr Kalela said Government is determined to take development as close to the people as possible. He said Lufwanyama is developing at a fast rate and commended Government for its commitment to attracting local and foreign investments to the emerald-rich area “The tarring of the Kalulushi-Lufwanyama road has helped in opening up the district further, this is a key road, it is an economic road which is playing an important role in the development of the district,” Mr Kalela said. He said Government will not be destracted in its bid to improve the welfare of Zambians. “Poverty in rural areas can best be tackled when a good road network is in place. We are determined to reduce poverty and ensure that we develop the country,” Mr Kalela said.
