Government has directed the Department of Water Affairs to start drilling boreholes in the new districts following  the  recent procurement of drill Rigs.

Western Province Minister Richwell Siamunene says government wants to ensure that under privileged rural communities especially in western province are provided with safe and clean drinking water.

Mr. Siamunene said as a way of demonstrating government’s commitment to provide services to the new districts, work should start in Nkeyema and Luampa districts, respectively.

He urged District Councils and the civil organizations  operating in the provision of rural water supply to take advantage of the equipment procured at a cost of K2.8 million.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Siamunene said this during the launch of the Drilling Rig, in Kaoma yesterday.

And acting Provincial Water Officer Joseph Nyoni said the procurement of the Rig will enable the Water Affairs Department to meet its obligation of improving rural water supply as it is already working with organisations such as the World Vision.
