Campaigns for a local Government by-election in Kalabo’s Buleya Ward are going on smoothly as no irregular incident has so far been recorded.

A survey conducted by ZANIS in Buleya found all the six political parties participating in the polls carrying out their campaigns peacefully without any interference from rival groupings.

All the six political parties expressed happiness at the prevailing situation in the Ward.

Kalabo District Commissioner, Masela Chinyama, also confirmed the peaceful campaigns in Buleya as no cases have so far been received by her office.

Mrs Chinyama was optimistic that the situation would remain calm during and after elections.

“I can confirm that so far my office has not received any bad report from Buleya Ward where campaigns are currently taking place which is a good thing for the district. I hope peace will continue to prevail during and after the elections,” she said.

Six political parties, namely Patriotic Front (PF), United Party for National Development (UPND), Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), National Restoration Party (NAREP) and Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) will participate in the by-election.

Buleya Ward fell vacant after United Party for National Development (UPND) Counsellor,   Oliver Mukonda Mandumbwa, resigned to join the civil service in the newly created Sikongo district.
