Nchelenge receives basal fertilizer

Nchelenge, July 29, 2014, ZANIS…The government has commenced the delivery of farming inputs to Nchelenge district in Luapula province in readiness for the 2014/2015 farming season.

According to the Marketing department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in the area, over 6,000 X 50 kilo grams bags of D-Compound fertilizer have been received.

Assistant District Marketing and Development Officer Davies Mumba confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Nchelenge today.

Mr. Mumba said the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) Limited has already delivered 6, 770 X 50 kilo gram bags of the basal fertilizer into the district.

He said this is out of the 7, 200 X 50 kilo grams bags of the basal dressing fertilizer allocated to the district adding the NCZ has indicated that the remaining balance of 430 X 50 kilo grams bags of the commodity will be delivered this week.

He said the district will further receive an additional 7,200 X 50 kilo gram bags of top dressing fertilizer to meet the 3, 600 maize pack obligation approved for the district under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

He disclosed that the truckloads ferrying the commodity by the NCZ limited started arriving in the district about two weeks ago.

Mr. Mumba explained that the district was awarded a total of 14, 720 X 50 kilo grams bags of Urea and D-Compound fertilizer under the FISP for the forthcoming farming season.

He added that the 120 X 50 kilo gram bags of the fertilizer are meant for the 40 packs of sorghum growers and 200 X 50 kilo gram bags of the commodity will go towards the 100 packs of rice growing.

Mr. Mumba described the move by the government to commence the delivery of inputs as timely and that it would help the farmers to adequately plan for their hecterage.
