Zambia is not likely to meet the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) number one on eradicating extreme poverty by 2015; the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has observed.

Millennium Development Goal (MDG) number one talks about the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger by the year 2015.

CSPR Head of Information and Advocacy Diana Ngula has told QFM News in an interview that there is a lot to be done if the country is have any chance to meet the MDG on the eradication of poverty before 2015.

Ms. Ngula says according to the baseline survey, Zambia has the target of about 28 percent which is a doubt to attain before 2015.

She explains that according to the living standards monitoring survey of 2010, the country’s extreme poverty was at 42 percent as compared to the one conducted in 1991 which stood at 58 percent.

Ms Ngula says it is with this background that her organization doubts the possibility of Zambia meeting MDG No.1 in the remaining five months.
