-Lusaka City Council (LCC ) Mayor Mulenga Sata has commended Lafarge Zambia for its efforts in cleaning and beautifying Lusaka City.

Mr. Sata says his council was grateful to the country’s leading cement making company contributions to the keep Lusaka clean campaign by ridding off litter and garbage in appropriate places.

The Mayor said Lafarge has demonstrated that through partnership with the LCC , the capital city would soon reclaim its garden city status favourable and a durable place to live in.

ZANIS reports that the Mayor said this in Lusaka today at the Lusaka City Clean Up Day in a speech ready for him by PF Lubwa Ward Councillor Humphrey Kapapula.

He later led Larfarge workers and management in picking up litter at the Lusaka Intercity Bus Terminus including the main Business District and disposed it in bins at designated sites.

The mayor said the local authority welcomes closer collaboration with the private sector in initiatives that are aimed at making the city cleaner and more beautiful.

He has challenged other firms in the country to emulate Lafarge in coming up with ambitious initiatives in ridding off garbage in towns especially at the time when Zambia commemorates her 50th independence jubilee.

And speaking earlier, Lafarge Chief Financial Officer Chrissie Moloseni said today’s action spells out the beginning of cleaning up the city.

Ms. Moloseni says it was for this reason her company was appealing to the general public to play an active role and get involved in ridding the entire Zambia off garbage.

She said the ‘dirt’ in the capital city was due to urbanisation and un-changed mind-set among the “ internal” migrates visiting the Capital City.
