Deputy Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo says steady progress has been made towards the setting up of the Forensic Laboratory which will also supplement the fight against gender-based violence in the country.

Mr. Kampyongo has told QFM Newsn in an interview that the progress made includes addressing the issue of equipment and training of laboratory personnel.

He adds that government recently dispatched a team of experts that included Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Dr. Peter Mwaba as part of preparations towards operationalizing the laboratory.

Mr. Kampyongo says once the laboratory is fully operational, government envisages that access to justice will be enhanced as time for doing investigations for crimes related to gender based violence will be reduced.

He adds that in due course his Ministry will also issue a comprehensive statement on progress made towards the operationalization of the laboratory.
