The Chipata Municipal Council has suspended two general workers in connection with irregularities in the issuance of receipts for tax in revenue collection by the local authority.

Public Relations Officer, Taonga Kaonga, said in an interview that Waza Chavula and Frank Tembo have been suspended to pave way for investigations in the matter in which council employees are alleged to have been issuing fake receipts for payment of tax.

Ms Kaonga stated that the two are from the revenue collection department and warned that the council would not rest until the matter is investigated and those involved are brought to book.

She appealed to residents that have information on the matter to report to the municipality or any law enforcement agency.

Early this year, confusion erupted at the local authority with some workers accusing others of being in possession of fake receipts and alleging that they had what they termed as double receipting.
