Zimbabwe’s senior women’s soccer team players boycotted training Tuesday ahead of this weekend’s crucial 2014 African Women’s Championship final qualifier against Zambia to protest over allowances and poor diet during their camp. The Mighty Warriors, as the team is affectionately known by its fans, refused to train until their demands to be paid outstanding allowances and for a review of the food they are getting while in camp are met.

They complained that they are still owed winning bonuses for the first round African Women’s Championship tie against Botswana held in March as well as allowances for last month’s first leg of the final qualifier against Zambia.

They also complained of the quality of food they are getting while in camp, which they said was substandard and not enough.

The strike is expected to affect preparations for the crucial away tie against Zambia.

Zimbabwe lost the first leg played at Rufaro Stadium 1-0 and need to overturn that deficit at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
