The Oasis Forum has demanded sincerity from the government over the release of the draft constitution and that the document should be made available to the Zambian people immediately.

Oasis Forum Chairperson Reverend Suzanne Matale in a statement issued to QFM News says there is no better time than now, as the country commemorates 50-years of self rule, to give the people a people driven constitution that will stand the test of time.

Reverend Matale says it is clear that the government is not willing to give Zambians their new constitution hence the many delaying tactics.

She states that the recent pronouncements by the government heaping blame on the Technical Committee on drafting the constitution for the impasse on the process is an act of misrepresentation of the truth meant to shift the blame from government to the Technical Committee.

Reverend Matale adds that the government is not only refusing to listen to the demands of the people but has also resorted to aggressively undermining the constitution making efforts and treating the matter as not priority.

She says attempts by the PF to separate issues of development from the constitution are unfortunate, stating that the constitution and development are not mutually exclusive because the constitution is the engine of real holistic development.

And Reverend Matale has observed that the Indaba on the constitution convened by SACCORD achieved nothing much apart from the admission by Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba that the draft constitution is in his hands.
