A consortium of three companies engaged by Zambia Railways Limited -ZRL- to put up the state of the art-rail signal on its tracks says the facility will be the first of its kind in Africa.

Bombardier Representative Lucien Peters says the consortium wants to use Zambia as a model for other sub Saharan African countries.

Mr. Peters was speaking when he led a delegation of experts from the consortium into a meeting with Zambia Railways Limited officials in Livingstone on Friday.

He says the new system will minimize the risk of vandalism and thefts along the line of rail and will also reduce the risk of human error, which usually results in accidents.

And Zambia Railways Limited Head of Public Relations Benson Ngula says most of the signals on the track have been completely vandalized.
