Republican Vice President Guy Scott has challenged new Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata to play a bigger role in organizing the country’s 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebrations and ensure that it is a success.

Speaking during the installation of Mr. Sata as Mayor at the Civic Center in Lusaka this afternoon, Dr. Scott says a lot will be required from the new Mayor considering that Lusaka is the capital city of Zambia and a lot of activities will be happening in Lusaka.

Dr. Scott says Mr. Sata has an extra duty to work with relevant stakeholders in ensuring that the 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations will be successful as planned.

He says Mr. Sata should ensure that within the five months that are remaining before the celebrations, he speeds up the preparations so that come October, everything will be in place.

And speaking after being installed as Mayor, Mr Sata says as new Mayor, he is committed to upholding a progressive approach to development as well as entrenching the need for inclusive economic growth.

Mr. Sata says there is need to find new ways to work with the business community in order to build a sustainable, economically strong, green and friendly city of Lusaka.

Speaking earlier, outgoing Lusaka Mayor, Daniel Chisenga, says Lusaka has to a greater extent benefited unprecedented development as can be seen from a number of road projects which have been commissioned among them the L400, inner ring road, pave Zambia 2000 and L50.

He says during his tenure, he has managed to transform the city planning department which before transformation used to frustrate infrastructure development in the city.
