Crocodile mauls grade eight pupil to death in Chinsali

A grade eight  pupil at  Munwe Secondary School in Kaunga ward of Chinsali District of Muchinga Province has died after being caught by a crocodile in Lubu River.

ZANIS reports that Kaunga PF Ward councilor Ian Mukondo has confirmed the incident in an interview in Chinsali District, today.

Mr. Mukondo said the incident happened on Saturday around 18:00 hours when the girl identified as Memory Kampamba in the company of four other girls went bathing in the crocodile infested River.

Alert members of the general public rushed to the river bank upon hearing the screams adding that a search was carried the whole night hunting for the crocodile.

He said that around 06:00 hours yesterday, the crocodile was spotted on the banks of the river where the remains of Memory was later retrieved.

Mr. Mukondo said that Memory has since been buried.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mukondo is appealing to the Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) to quickly rush to Munwe Village and help in cropping the crocodiles.

The ward councilor said about four people has been killed in the recent past after being caught by the crocodiles.
