Mines, Energy and Water Development Minister Christopher Yaluma says Lumwana Mine PLC in Solwezi has no immediate plans to start processing the stockpiled Uranium.

Responding to a question by Mwinilunga Member of Parliament Steven Katuka who wanted to what quantities of uranium have been produced by Lumwana Mine Plc from inception to-date and the value of the uranium produced, Mr Yaluma told Parliament that no uranium has been produced at Lumwana since inception.

Mr Yaluma explained that the uranium ore which is being mined at the mine is a by-product of copper and is stockpiled and covered.

He says the value of the uranium ore stockpiled by Lumwana Mine has not yet been established.

Mr Yaluma adds that no uranium has been sold so far by the mining company and that no taxes have been paid in this respect.
