Chilubi police nab ten for assault, damage, theft

–Police in Chilubi district have arrested ten people in connection with the alleged barbaric acts which were recently experienced in the area in which two women were seriously assaulted on their private parts.

 

Northern Province Police Deputy Commissioner, Milner Muyambango, confirmed the arrest to ZANIS in Chilubi district.

 

Mr Muyambango said all the ten suspects were arrested over the weekend in Mule Village of chief Matipa’s area in Chilubi.

 

He said the suspects, who included both juveniles and adults, were arrested after they allegedly beat and assaulted many different people of the same village last Friday.

 

The deputy Police Commissioner said among the victims were two old women who are nursing serious injuries after they were forcefully entered   sticks in their private parts for accusing them of being wizards.

 

Mr Muyambango further explained that the suspects have also caused people to flee the village for fear of being killed while school lessons at a nearby learning institution have also been paralysed.

 

He also said other people’s houses were smashed to the ground and properties worth thousands of Kwacha were destroyed in the process.

 

Mr Muyambango said the suspects have since been charged with various offences ranging from theft, malicious damage of property and assaults.

 

 The ten suspects have since been remanded at Chilubi police station and  will appear in court soon.
