—–Government has raised concern that the empowerment funds are not reaching the most vulnerable women in most parts of rural areas in the country.

Deputy Minister of Gender and Child Development, Obius Chisala, disclosed this to ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today after touring government developmental projects in Chilubi Island.

Mr Chisala, who is also Chilubi Member of Parliament, said the vast majority of women and children are not accessing the funds that are meant to positively uplift their lives.

“I discovered that a number of women that are benefiting from the Ministry of Gender and Child Development through funding of women’s clubs are those in the boma. People leaving in the outskirts are not benefiting,” said Mr Chisala.

The Deputy Minister has since directed provincial officers from both ministries of Gender and Child Development and Community Development, Mother and Child Health to intensify sensitisation campaigns and ensure that women in the remotest parts of the country access the funds.
