Govt. impressed with contraceptive use in Mongu

Mongu, 28, 01, 14, ZANIS —  Government says it is impressed with the high number of  women and men accessing the different kinds of  contraceptives in Mongu district.

 

Ministry of Health ‘s Information Officer for Mongu district Mr Mukololo Mubita says there are 39 health facilities that offer the family planning methods in the district with the support from the United Kingdom.

Mr Mukololo said it was very impressive to note  most men in the area  are  now playing an active role in family planning as the escort their spouses for family planning sessions where they even voluntarily collect male condoms.

 

 The Ministry’s Information Officer said this in an interview  with ZANIS in  Mongu District today.

 

Mr Mukololo said the health institutions have involved volunteers to help in the sensitization and distributing of the family planning drugs apart from the injectable family planning methods which are only given at the health institutions by trained officers.

He added on to say the numbers have increased from 2,280 in the year 2010 to 2,610 in 2011 and 2,910 in 2012 respectively.

 

And he said all family planning clinics also offer sensitization on HIV/AIDS and advice on what type of contraceptives should be used by HIV positive people to avoid re-effection.

 

Mr Mukololo said mostly some women face side effects when using family planning but  no  serious side  effects  have been reported.
