Simon Mwale is new Board Secretary for Boxing and Wrestling Control Board

The Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZPBWCB) has appointed Simon Mwale as its new Board Secretary.

Mwale who is Times of Zambia boxing columnist takes over from the Board’s Technical Sub- Committee Chairman Chris Mulenga who has been acting in the position since the departure of Ben Saili last year.

According to a media release by ZPBWCB Chairperson Nelson Sapi, Mwale was appointed after a rigorous selection process.

Sapi said Mwale brings to the board a wealth of knowledge and experience in matters relating to boxing.

He said boxing is growing in popularity in the country and the board has to raise the profile of the sport through heightened publicity.

He said Mwale’s journalistic background is an asset to the board especially that it comes at a time when Zambia will soon be staging two World Boxing Council (WBC) title fights.

And Mwale who is former Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company, Public Relations Manager said he is honoured to be joining a board that is determined to take the sport to new levels.

Mwale holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Cavendish University and a Post-graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass communication.

The other board members headed by Sapi are Chris Mulenga, David Nseluke, Dr Lawson Simapuka, and Sylvia Eneke.
