COUNTERFEIT phones and accessories valued at K276, 926 have been confiscated by the Intellectual Property Unit in Chipata District.

The unit which carried out operations on Saturday confiscated fake samsung phones, chargers and batteries from some trading outlets.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila said the operation even led to the apprehension of five people who have since been charged with the offence of counterfeiting Contrary to Section 6 of the Laws of Zambia.

Ms Chipalila said the unit confiscated 225 phone batteries, 74 fake samsung phones and 80 chargers among the accessories all valued at K276, 926.

She warned people against selling counterfeit products.

Meanwhile, Chipata Municipal Council and Zambia Police Service impounded a container truck registration number ACX 1396 which was carrying Yummy Beverage drinks.

This was after a tip off from members of the public that Wigas General Dealers drinks on Umodzi Highway was reportedly selling drinks.

Health Inspector Derrick Soko said the council had confiscated 72 cases of uncertified drinks

He said Wigas General Dealers also had conflicting trading licences with one registered as Wigas General Dealers while another certificate from Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) was registered under Jasik.

Mr Soko said the drinks would be subjected to laboratory tests to determine if they were fit for human consumption.
