–A 28-year-old man of Mwampila Village in Chief Liteta’s Chiefdom in Chibombo District is nursing extensive burns on his body in Liteta hospital after the house he was sleeping in caught fire.

Medical Officer In-charge at Liteta Hospital, Natalie Simakoloyi, confirmed the incident to ZANIS, saying the accident occurred in the early hours of yesterday.

Dr Simakoloyi said the man was brought to the hospital yesterday morning and had extensive burns on his body.

Dr Simakoloyi, who could not give further details about the patient, however, said the fire victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, adding that he was out of danger.

Meanwhile, a source close to the patient, who did not want to be named, told ZANIS that the cause of fire, which also gutted the entire property in the house, is not yet known.

The source further said the victim had gone to spend a night at a house of a woman with whom he has a child when the fire incident happened.

However, the source said when the victim woke up around 01:00 hours after the house had caught fire, the woman and the child were not in the house.

The source also narrated that before the victim went to bed on the fateful night, he had a dispute with the woman after she suspected that he was having an affair with yet another woman.

The source said it is not even clear whether the woman and the child were in the house when the fire started.

The source, however, confirmed that the woman and the child have been seen in the village since yesterday.
