-The Zambia Information Communications and Technology Authority (ZICTA) is scheduled to commence erection of communication towers in Zambezi West by June this year.

ZICTA Board Chairman Emmanuel Musonda said ZICTA officials would be transporting the equipment by next month and that the project to start the erection of communication towers under phase one in the area would commence around June after the rainy season.

Mr Musonda said the Authority has delayed to commence the project because of delayed shipment of the equipment from China to Dar-es-Salaam and then eventually to Zambia.

He was speaking in Zambezi when he called on Senior Chief Ndungu and Chief Chinyama at Mize palace yesterday.

Mr Musonda said that the Patriotic Front (PF) government under the leadership of President Michael Sata wants all the palaces to have access to communication through the erection of towers.

He disclosed that a total of 169 towers would be erected countrywide in phase one out of which six would be erected in Zambezi district.

Speaking earlier, Senior Chief Ndungu said the area has had no communication network for a long time and thanked government for coming to the aid of the people in the Zambezi west bank.

He said communication is vital in society and the erection of the communication towers would bring about peace to the people that live near the boarders as they would be able to communicate all the difficulties they face to the relevant authorities.

And Chief Chinyama appealed to the ZICTA team to speed up the commencement of the project which he said had taken long to be accomplished.
