Nkakula Patriotic Front (PF) councillor in Chinsali central constituency John Mumba has expressed concern over the continued delay in the construction of a six –storey provincial administration office in the district.

In a walk-in interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today, Mr Mumba said as a civic leader, he is worried and concerned about the pace at which the provincial administration project is progressing.

Mr. Mumba said the six –storey building being constructed by China Jiangxi Cooperation has unnecessarily delayed adding that people tasked with the responsibility of supervising the works should do that which is right and in the interest of the public and ensure that construction works are stepped up.

Mr. Mumba said there is no way works could remain on foundation level for over a period of one year adding that other contractors given similar works like those constructing the divisional police headquarters in the district is doing a good job.

He said that he cannot sit back and see a project right in the heart of Chinsali central moving at a snails pace .

“We are not happy with the pace at which this project is moving. We need someone to tell us what is happening, “Mr. Mumba demanded .

Mr. Mumba has since appealed to the office of the Permanent Secretary and the office of the provincial buildings officer in the district to consider cancelling the contract and awarding it to a serious contractor who can produce a good product in a record time.

Mr. Mumba said the people of Chinsali are in a hurry to see the area develop adding that President Michael Sata’s vision of transforming the district will not be realized if the local people do not take interest in the monitoring and supervision of the projects.

Several senior government officials, among them, provincial minister Gerry Chanda, Works deputy minister Mwimba Malama, and Chinsali district commissioner Evelyn Kangwa have in the recent past expressed displeasure over the continued delays in the construction of the six – storey provincial administration.

Construction of the six – storey provincial administration in Chinsali district of Muchinga province took off in July last year and it is still on foundation level raising concerns among some civic leaders.
