The Provincial Medical Office in Muchinga has bemoaned the low take-up of Male Circumcision in the Province.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Acting Provincial Medical Officer, Charles Chungu, said the province has been posting the lowest number of males going for circumcision in the country.

Dr Chungu attributed the low number of males taking up circumcision in the province to the traditional customs in the area that do not encourage act.

He also said this is further compounded by lack of facilities to conduct male circumcision in the health facilities.

He said there are very few organisations that have partnered with the Provincial Medical Office to offer male circumcision services in the province.

Dr Chungu said Muchinga Province needs more partners so that male circumcision services can be scaled up as it is one intervention in preventing transmission of HIV.
