A 61-YEAR-OLD woman of Mpongwe in Chief Malembeka’s area who went missing about a week ago has been found dead with a deep cut on her head.

Jennipher Salati’s body was discovered in a decomposed state on Friday around 06:00 hours by her son, Edson Kamau, after he found a half pair of her shoes in a nearby bush.

Acting Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa confirmed in Ndola yesterday that the deceased was last seen on Sunday last week around 14:00 hours after she attended a church service at Ibenga Parish Catholic Church.

“She left the parish for Mulilatambo area using a footpath,” Ms Kasosa said.

She said Jennipher was found with a deep cut at the back of her skull and in a pool of dry blood.

Ms Kasosa said police suspect foul play and that an inquiry has been opened.

And Ms Kasosa said police in Mufulira have arrested an 18-year-old pupil for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old grade seven girl.

She said the incident happened on Friday around 14:00 hours in Kantanshi when the girl and her friends were going back home after writing their grade seven final examinations.

Ms Kasosa said the suspect, of Kankoyo township, is in police custody and will appear in court soon.

“The victim and her friends were coming from writing exams when they decided to pass through the bush to pick some wild fruits,” Ms Kasosa said.

She said the girl and her friends met the suspect with his friend who allegedly started chasing them until he caught up with the victim, pushed her to the ground and defiled her.
