THE key suspect in the gruesome murder of a 24-year-old woman of Maamba in Sinazongwe yesterday appeared in the Choma magistrate’s court.

Gaman Kandanda, 25, a general worker in Maamba appeared before Magistrate Victoria Chitulangoma who explained the charge.

On September 25, this year, Kandanda allegedly murdered Carol Mweemba, a situation which sparked a riot after her body was discovered in a septic tank.

Carol was murdered in what was suspected to be a ritual killing because her private parts and part of her left breast were removed.

Ms Chitulangoma told Kandanda in a fully packed courtroom that he would remain in police custody and appear in court for mention on October 25, this year.

Kandanda who was among the latest 24 suspects arrested this week, appeared alone while the other 11 suspects out of 24 were appearing before Magistrate Jacob Mbolela.

The 11 who comprised males and females however, pleaded not guilty to riotous behaviour and causing malicious damage to property.
