FOUR people died on the spot, while nine others sustained injuries after the mini-bus they were travelling in overturned on Great East road in Lusaka on Wednesday.

The accident happened when the bus had a tyre burst which resulted in the driver losing con trol of the motor vehicle and overturned.

Police assistance public relations officer Esther Katongo said in a statement that the Toyota Hiace mini-bus registration number ALK 2369 driven by Joseph Mulungwe, 30, of Sinjela area in Chongwe.

Ms Katongo said the accident occurred at around 14:30 hours on Wednesday along Great East Road at Mawegwenu area when the vehicle was going to Chongwe from Lusaka.

The injured were rushed to Chongwe District Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased are in Chongwe district Hospital mortuary.

She said the deceased persons had not yet been identified and appealed to members of the public who were suspecting their relatives to have boarded the bus to go to Chongwe District Hospital and help in identifying the bodies.

In Kitwe, a Chinese man identified as Hao Zejun aged 26, of GEO Township on the Kitwe – Chingola road, died after he was hit by a construction rubber Roller registration number RZ 12, property of GEO Construction Company.

Ms Katongo said the accident happened when the driver of the Construction vehicle, Arnold Sali aged 22 of GEO township in Kalulushi was reversing and in the process hit the deceased who was among the workers of GEO Construction Company working on the road near Kitwe High Court.

She said the victim, who sustained a cut on the head and a dislocated left shoulder was rushed to Kitwe central hospital and later referred to Sinozam Hospital where he later died and the body is in the same hospital mortuary.

In Samfya District, Police have arrested a 20-year-old man identified as Enock Kapambwe of Malombola village for allegedly murdering Changwe Changwe aged 27 of the same village, while his accomplice only identified as Maloba is still on the run.

Ms Katongo said the incident occurred on Tuesday around 08:45 hours in Samfya District.

She said the trio was reported to have gone on a drinking spree and on their return home, one of the suspects, Enock Kapambwe accused the deceased of having an affair with his wife and a fight ensued.
