The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has appealed to the National Water and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) to demand efficiency and better service provision from Water and Sewerage Companies proposing to increase water tariffs.

Six water utility companies among them Lusaka Water and sewerage are seeking to increase water tariffs.

Speaking in an interview with QFM News today, ZACA Executive Director, Muyunda Ililonga, says the water and sewerage companies must improve service delivery before their proposal to increase tariffs for both domestic and commercial customers can be considered.

Mr.Ililonga adds that it is unacceptable for the companies seek to hike the tariffs when they are failing to provide quality services for their domestic and commercial customers.

He says people should not be subjected to paying higher water tariffs when the current tariffs are already high for most consumers.
