THE Zambian bowlers’ trip to Namibia next month for their defence of the African States Bowling Championships title is hanging in balance having failed to raise K115,000 required for the trip.

Out of the budgeted K115, 000, the Zambia Bowling Association (ZBA) has only managed to raise K30, 000, leaving a deficit of K85, 000.

The women duo of Foster Banda and Matimba Like are the pairs defending champions.

Like is also the African States singles champion in the event where Zambian women were overall runners-up to winners, South Africa.

ZBA president, Chilombo Chali made a passionate appeal to the business community to come on board and assist the association send a team of 12 bowlers to Namibia.

‘‘Zambia’s participation in the above tournament where Zambian Ladies are defending the Singles and Pairs hangs in balance due to failure to raise enough funds,’’ he said in a statement released in Chingola yesterday.

With only two weeks before the scheduled trip to Windhoek, Chali is keeping his fingers crossed and hoping for a miracle to happen.

He said ZBA was expected to send 12 bowlers and one official on September 4 for the continental championships.

The African States Bowling tournament will be held from September 6 – 15.

During last year’s championships in South Africa, ZBA was sponsored by Buildcon Investments, Tazama Pipelines, Sports Council of Zambia and the Ministry of Sports.
