The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) recorded five hundred and ninety (590) cases of child defilement from January to July, 2013.

UTH Public Relations Officer, Mwenya Mulenga has confirmed this in an interview with Qfm today.

Mr. Mulenga says the highest health institution in the country recorded three hundred and nine cases in the first quarter of 2013.

He says from May to July 30th, the institution recorded two hundred and eighty one (281) cases of child defilement.

Mr. Mulenga states that the figures are alarming considering the fact that cases of child defilement have continued to occur despite many sensitization programs put in place to ensure that people desist from such evil vices.

He says five hundred and ninety is not a small number and has since called for concerted efforts to fight child defilement.

Mr. Mulenga says the figures are based on the cases reported to the institution and do not include those cases which were not reported.
