SOME  residents of Ndeke Township in Kitwe on Wednesday night stormed the site that was used for destroying the withdrawn Zambeef meat products and made away with what remained after the burning exercise.

It came to the attention of some residents that some of the Zambeef meat products that had been taken to the area to be destroyed did not actually burn out because they were frozen at the time they were being ferried to the destruction site.

When this came to their attention, some residents allegedly stormed the destruction site at night and dugout the meat products.

Kitwe City Council spokesperson Dorothy Sampa confirmed knowledge of the matter but said the local authority had instituted investigations.

Ms Sampa in the meantime called on Kitwe residents not to buy meat products such liver, kidneys and hooves from undesignated places.

On Wednesday, a batch of withdrawn Zambeef imported meat products weighing over 60, 000 kilogrammes was destroyed in Ndeke.
