Govt continues to engage stakeholders in education sector

Government says it will continue engaging various stakeholders in the education sector in its effort to make education accessible to all.

 

Mumbwa District Commissioner, Sunday Shambana, says government recognizes its partnership with various education stakeholders as an important avenue of hastening the process of education in the country.

 

Mr Shambana notes with happiness the legitimate strides that the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) and other partners have made in complementing government’s efforts in hastening the process of education in the country.

 

He was speaking in Mumbwa yesterday when ZOCS handed over a 2 by 1 classroom block to Mumwba District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) at Kantengwa Community School.

 

Mr Shambana stated that government seeks to create, promote and support the conditions of education to ensure that education realizes its full potential in society.

 

And Mumbwa District Education Board Secretary, Theresa Sitali, commended the Zambia Open Community Schools for its commitment in improving education standards in various community schools in the country.

 

Ms Sitali said the new infrastructure will motivate pupils’ attendance and performance as well as improve education standard at the school.

 

She said DEBS was going to send trained teachers to the community school once the school builds accommodation for the teachers.

 

Handing over the classroom block, ZOCS Executive Director, Harriet Miyato, appealed to government to turn the Kantengwa Community School into an examination centre as pupils have to cover over 8 km to access an examination point.

 

Ms Miyato said the new classroom building has a strong room, a facility which makes it qualify to be an examination centre as it meets the security requirements.

 

She further pledged continued support to government’s quest to make accessible quality education for vulnerable orphaned and disabled children in society.

 

The community school, which has 459 children from Grade One to Seven, only had two classrooms.

 

The new classroom block comprises two classrooms, an office and a strong room.
