Three council workers in court for stealing money

Siavonga, July 12, ZANIS —— Three employees of the Siavonga district council yesterday appeared in the Magistrate court for trial in a matter in which they alleged to have stolen  over K 2,300.

Before Magistrate Barthlomew Kaongo was Edward Simweemba 47, a works Foreman, Smart Saiti 39, a Plumber of Kanyelele compound and David Tilapya 51 an Electrician and a plumber of Mitcho compound who stood charged with theft by public servant contrary to
section 272 and 277 chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Facts before court are that on 19 March, 2013, being persons employed as general workers jointly and whilst acting together did steal K 2, 398 the property of Siavonga district council which came into their possession.

The trio is allegedly to have swindled the local authourity by alleging to have bought building materials worth over k 2.300 from a hard ware shop known as Kariba ventures which meant for renovating of a house for the council Treasurer.

However, the state was an able to proceed with the trial because the lawyer in the matter was not avaible.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter to 16th August 2013 for trail and the police bonds for the trio were extended.
