Sinyangwe urges DCs to support DMMU operations

Kabwe, July 11, ZANIS ——Out going Central Province Permanent Secretary Annie Sinyangwe has urged District Commissioners in the province to give Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DMMU) support in its provision of required services to the people as stipulated in the Act.

Speaking when she officially opened a two day orientation workshop for District Commissioners and Planners on the operations of the DMMU in Kabwe today, Mrs Sinyangwe said for effective implementation and management of disaster in the province, District Commissioners were critical stakeholders among others in ensuring that the unity worked well.

She said in future, as government continues with decentralization, there will be need to beef up the provincial DMMU office and also open up DMMU offices in districts to help ease the operations of the unity.

The Central province Permanent Secretary said for now, offices of District Commissioners were enough with the help of district committees to ensure operations of DMMU were carried out effectively.

Mrs Sinyangwe also called for change of attitude towards work among District Commissioners and public service workers saying they should carry their duties deligently and attend to people with open hands for the public to have confidence in government operations.

She said she was confident that the discussions from the workshop will enhance the operations of DMMU and strengthen the coordination role of disaster management and mitigation as government endeavours to serve the vulnerable communities of the country effectively and efficiently.

She further commended the District Commissioners for their interventions in many areas of development in their districts saying their role was vital in ensuring that government delivered the much needed services to the people.
