Police formerly charge, arrest Zyambo, release Hamasaka

Police in Lusaka have formerly charged one of the two detained journalists in connection to seditious practices and released the other.

Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Charity Munganga said Thomas Zyambo aged 40, of house number 25311 Chalala in Lusaka has been formerly charged and arrested in relation to seditious practice offenses contrary to section 57 and 60 of the Penal Code Act cap. 87 of the laws of Zambia.

In a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka, Ms. Munganga said police were ready to grant Mr. Zyambo bond except he failed to provide the police with sureties.

She however said Mr. Zyambo will remain in police custody until he was able to fulfill the conditions of the bond.

And Ms. Munganga confirmed the release of Clayson Hamasaka aged 40, of house No. 12244 Woodlands Extension, after being warned and cautioned in relation to the same offense.

She also dismissed claims carried in some sections of the media that a third party was arrested at the material day in the same matter.

The two were arrested on 9th July 2013 after a search was conducted at their respective residences.
