Speaker urges MPs to be involved in sports

Lusaka, Jul 1/13 ZANIS—-Speaker of the National Assembly, Patrick Matibni, has tipped Members of Parliament to remain actively involved in various sports disciplines.

Dr Matibini said sport plays a vital role in maintaining good health of the body, hence the need for Parliamentarians to remain always active in sporting activities.

He called on Parliamentarian’s to seriously involve themselves in sport, adding that the move will enable them to be in good shape and in turn allow themselves to participate actively in national issues.

The Speaker said this yester night at a closing dinner hosted for visiting Malawian Parliamentarians led by their speaker, Henry Chimunthu Banda.

The Malawian Parliamentarians, who have since left this morning, were in the country where they played a series of games such as football, netball and chess with their Zambian counterparts.

And Dr Matibini praised the Malawian Parliamentarians for choosing Zambia as one of its best partners in exchanging information on various developmental programs affecting the two nations.

Meanwhile, Malawian Speaker of the National Assembly, Henry Banda, also thanked the Zambian Members of Parliament for the warm gesture his crew received while in the country.

Mr Banda, however, said there is need to extend the social sports festivals among the Parliamentarians to other countries in the southern African region.

He stated that sport plays a vital role in harnessing regional integration and peace.
