–Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister, Josephine Limata, has warned newly recruited civil servants in Western Province to immediately report to their respective stations or risk their appointments being revoked.

And Mulobezi District Commissioner, Charles Mwananguba, has disclosed that the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has allocated land for the construction of a district administration block and other social amenities.

Meanwhile, Gender and Child Development Assistant Director, Nicholas Banda, has implored teachers in the country to stop meting out corporal punishment to indiscipline pupils as a way of correcting them.

Ms Limata is saddened that most of newly recruited civil servants for Mulobezi District have opted to reside and operate from Sesheke District and only go to their station whenever they hear that a senior government official was touring the district.

The Deputy Minister, who is also Luampa Member of Parliament, sounded the warning after she toured the rented district administration offices in Mulobezi District.

Ms Limata also toured the site where the new district administration block, civic centre and other social amenities will be constructed in the newly created Mulobezi district.

She explained that government was in a hurry to bring services to the people of Mulobezi, hence cannot wait for civil servants that are only interested in drawing a salary at the expense of service delivery.

Ms Limata has commended dedicated and committed members of staff that have already reported and serving the people despite numerous challenges such as inadequate both office and residential accommodation and other necessary tools.

She, however, directed the Mulobezi District Commissioner, to immediately summon all those that are resisting shifting to the new district and recommend for replacements to all those that will not abide by her directive.

Earlier, Mulobezi District Commissioner, Charles Mwananguba, disclosed that the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has allocated land for the construction of the district administration block, civic centre and other social amenities.

Mr Mwananguba told Ms Limata that his administration is enjoying a cordial working relationship with the BRE and people who are grateful to President Michael Sata for giving the area a district status.

He pledged to effectively coordinate government policies and programmes as outlined in the PF party manifesto in order to ease the challenges of the people.

Mr Mwananguba reported that over 50 per cent of the staff that were recruited had already reported in the district except a few that were residing and operating in Sesheke District.

Meanwhile, Gender and Child Development Assistant Director, Nicholas Banda, has implored teachers in the country to stop meting out corporal punishment to indiscipline pupils as a way of correcting them.

Mr Banda said government is concerned that despite abolishing corporal punishment in schools, the practice has continued unabated, hence government’s decision to sensitise teachers, pupils and parents to use other correctional methods.

He further said government is equally concerned with the escalating incidences of child defilement, early marriages, child labour and other inhuman treatment of children in society.
