Govt. releases 45,000 doses of foot and mouth disease vaccines to Mazabuka Veterinary

 

Mazabuka, June 27, ZANIS……………Government has given the department of Veterinary and Livestock Services in Mazabuka District a total of forty five thousand (45,000) doses of foot and mouth disease vaccines aimed at combating diseases in the area.

 

Acting District Agriculture Coordinator Nawa Mabuku disclosed in this in an interview with ZANIS in Mazabuka that the doses will be used to vaccinate animals in the two chiefdoms of Mwanachingwala and Hanjalika in Mazabuka District.

Dr. Mabuku stated that the release of the vaccines by the government through the provincial office in Choma resulted from the continued prevailing cases of foot and mouth disease that have been recorded in the two chiefdoms.

 

He said the exercise that will commence next week will require officials from the department of Veterinary and Livestock to visit the affected areas and vaccinate the animals.

 

Dr. Mabuka however said sensitizations campaigns with regards to the vaccination exercise had already been initiated in order to create awareness to the livestock farmers whose animals have been affected by the diseases.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Mabuku also disclosed that the department in the district has received a total of Thirty Million Kwacha for the rehabilitation of a camp house in Nega-Nega area.

 

Recently, the government released a sum of Three hundred Million Kwacha to the district for the rehabilitation of dip tanks in the area to enable farmers dip their animals and prevent the outbreak and spread of corridor diseases.

 

And Chief Hanjalika in whose chiefdom the vaccination of animals will be conducted thanked government for the initiative it has taken to vaccinate the animals.

 

Chief Hanjalika said the move to treat their animals to vaccines will greatly help in stopping the spread of the foot and mouth disease which he said is serious and easily kills cattle.
